Two veterans of RMM software pioneer N-able have joined forces a second time to launch a company dedicated to helping MSPs manage cloud-based resources as effectively as they do on-premises assets. Called Augmentt and officially open for business today, the new vendor is led by Gavin Garbutt, who founded N-able and served as its CEO until selling the company to SolarWinds in 2013, and Derik Belair, a senior leader at N-able who was vice president of marketing at SolarWinds after the acquisition.

For roughly two decades, MSPs have leveraged RMM (remote monitoring and management) software tools to maintain customer PCs, servers, network infrastructure, and other endpoint devices. That remains a big installed base opportunity. But a blue ocean MSP opportunity — namely, managing SaaS applications for customers — remains largely untapped.

Derik Belair and Gavin Garbutt seem to have a knack for launching new businesses at the right time – even if outward appearances would say the contrary.

As the pandemic lingers, and remote work becomes the new norm for many of your customers’ employees, there’s a whole new set of challenges MSPs must overcome. Today, Ottawa-based Augmentt is formally launching. The company is the brainchild of Gavin Garbutt and Derik Belair. Garbutt was the founder and CEO of RMM N-able, which was acquired by Solarwinds in 2013, while Belair was also at N-able basically from the start, and became the VP of Marketing and Business Development. Augmentt is not an RMM, but a SaaS operations management provider, focused solely on the MSP community, with a mandate of helping MSPs better monetize and manage SaaS solutions.

This is not your father’s RMM tool. The phrase could be the unofficial tagline for Augmentt, a new company with deep ties to N-able.
